My Story

I have been active in fitness and sport my whole life. Cricket, Basketball, (Canadian) Football, (Soccer) Football, Rugby, Track and Field, Volleyball, Water Polo…I do/did them all. But nothing so far has compared to CrossFit. My two main sports of choice over the years have been Basketball and Rugby. I have represented Bermuda in Basketball at the Carifta Games, Played semi-professional basketball during my year as a rotary exchange student in Chile, South America, I played varsity Football (Canadian) and Basketball during my time at Saint Mary’s University in Nova Scotia, Canada; and continue to play in the senior men’s leagues locally now (although I am pretty sure my son will soon be able to beat me fair and square).

In rugby, I have captained Bermuda at the junior and senior level for both 7 a side and 15 a side. I have coached at the junior and senior levels. I was one of the coaches for the Bermuda’s first ever women’s full contact National Rugby Team. I had a short stint as a professional player in the UK, after which I went on to captain the West Indies Rugby team in both 7s and 15s teams that have travelled the world to compete against top opposition. I now continue to represent my club domestically and country internationally.

My coaching experience has been complemented with the man management and tactical skills I acquired in the Bermuda Regiment. I became a commissioned officer after completing the Territorial Army’s Commissioning Course at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, UK and earning a commission from HRM the Queen of England. I achieved the rank of Captain and served as Aide de Camp to the Governor of Bermuda.

I have remained very interested in fitness over the years and decided I wanted to do more with that interest. I obtained my qualification as a Certified Personal Trainer through The Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) in hopes of helping potential clients reach their health and fitness goals. However, once I found CrossFit for the first time, I was immediately hooked. Since that point I made it my goal to bring this sport/life style to our tiny little island. And I am so glad to see that finally come to fruition.

Why I Love CrossFit

I love CrossFit because after spending my whole life doing one sport or the other, I have finally found something that challenges me every day and there is no ceiling. I love the challenge, I love the unpredictability, I love the camaraderie, I love the community and I love watching people achieve today what they could not even imagine yesterday.

My Story

I was never particularly sporty or athletic growing up. Once I returned from university the pounds started to creep on. I started walking a lot & when that just wasn’t enough, I started lifting weights which I instantly enjoyed. I was always lifting weights or running to get down to a certain weight. And it was always a struggle. It was love at 1st sight with CrossFit. I was pushed every workout & couldn’t wait to go back for more. There were (& still are) so many things to accomplish & get better at & the number on scale no longer matters. It is very empowering to see the constant improvements in strength & skill that have resulted from hard work & dedication. I love helping others in the gym, seeing them perfect a movement or get a PR…it’s so rewarding.

Why I Love CrossFit

It changed my life. I’m healthier & happier than I’ve ever been. The workouts are challenging but also leave you with a sense of accomplishment. Love the people I’ve met through CrossFit.

My Story

I have an active lifestyle which not only includes CrossFit but also extreme outdoor activities such as mountain biking, snowboarding, wakeboarding and fly boarding. I have been involved in some of these activities for over 20 years; and others for as little as 12 months. I consider myself to be your typical adrenaline junkie. If it goes fast, flies high or if you can jump it, you can sign me up! I also believe in a balanced approach to personal fitness; with CrossFit I have been able to broaden my athletic ability in training and recreational activities.

Why I Love CrossFit

I love CrossFit because of the emphasis on performance, balance and variance in the workouts. CrossFit consistently challenges me mentally and physically and allows me to push myself beyond what I had previously experienced in other exercise programs. I also love the energy, intensity, diversity in the people and the different fitness levels that is unique to the CrossFit community.

My Story

From a young age I have been both playing and watching sports. I mostly played basketball and soccer throughout my childhood. Upon leaving for boarding school in Quebec I focused mainly on my passion for basketball, also playing some soccer and rugby. My particular focus on basketball lead me to play for my university varsity team in Canada. As part of my athletic development, I started to get into weight training in my mid-teens, which continued after university when I returned to Bermuda to work. The challenge was fun but I missed the element of athletic competition. I was exposed to CrossFit in Christmas of 2011 when the CrossFit games repeat was running on ESPN, and I was definitely intrigued. When I heard that CrossFit BDA was opening in May 2012, I decided to check out the open introductory WOD and I was hooked. I joined CrossFit BDA as soon as my gym membership expired and haven’t looked back.

Why I Love CrossFit

Firstly, I love the community aspect around the box. It’s great to see everyone come together and hold social events and hold people accountable if they don’t show at their usual time for the WOD. I also love the competitive aspect, which challenges everyone to improve each day and develop as athletes. It’s great to see people come together and have fun whilst maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Oh yeah – and getting to lift heavy stuff!

My Story

Fitness has always been a huge component of my life.

From a young age I have always loved being active. I played almost every sport I could but mainly excelled in swimming and field hockey where I was voted an All-American Player at Springfield College and travelled around the US, the Caribbean, South America and Europe representing Bermuda. I studied at Springfield College, and graduated with a Sport Management Degree and was able to gain experience working with athletes in Sydney, Australia at the New South Wales Institute of Sport.

After playing field hockey for about 18 years, I found that the sport put a strain on certain parts of my body which meant I couldn’t compete anymore. When I heard about CrossFit starting up here in Bermuda, I was excited because it was something new and different. It was great for me because the movements are constantly varied so it meant not one part of my body was being overworked. I started CrossFit in June 2012 (when CrossFit BDA opened) and haven’t looked back. Every workout was scary at the start but by the end the energy I got from it was unbelievable and I quickly fell in love with the sport.
I look forward to helping our members with their fitness goals as well as introducing kids to this amazing program to keep them healthy and strong while still having fun.

Why I Love CrossFit

The constantly varied workouts and the community are why I love CrossFit. Whether you are in Bermuda or visiting boxes around the world, you are always welcomed because everyone is there for the same reason, to get fit and healthy and to have fun! It’s also very rewarding and motivational to the see the changes and improvements in myself and others.
